One of the top subjects we get questions on is related to our trash service. I will try and break it down so that hopefully, there aren’t any questions. If I don’t answer address one of your question here, please don’t hesitate to send us an email at info@sagemeadow.org.
When are our trash days?
Trash collection occurs twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays. Our collection is done by Texas Pride Disposal and they ask that we put out our trash the night before and no later than 6 a.m. the day of collection.
Where do I get my trash can?
Sagemeadow DOES NOT have issued trash bins. Years ago, a previous contract issued each property one “green trash can”. There are many that are still around and are still serviceable. However, others have seen better days and may be destined for the trash heap themselves. If you don’t have one, or your existing green can is on it’s last leg, you may order a competitively priced replacement can from Texas Pride using this link. If you choose to purchase a can from Texas Pride, they offer free repair/replacement of damaged wheels or lid. Not to mention, if everyone has a Texas Pride can, it makes the community look more uniform!
When is “heavy trash” day?
Texas Pride provides us with opportunities to dispose of heavy trash EVERY collection day, but with some limitations. See their website for all the limitations for heavy trash. https://www.texaspridedisposal.com/residential.html
What can I throw away?
For the most part, any household or yard waste can be easily disposed of with our trash service. There are some reasonable limitations put in place for the safety and well-being of the trash collectors as well as the environment.
1. Any household or yard waste you put out must not exceed 50 pounds.
2. Waste must be contained in trash containers or in bags not to exceed 95-gallons in size.
3. Branches should be less than 6 inches in diameter, and put in piles of 3 cubic feet or less OR bundled in piles that don’t exceed 50 pounds.
4. Do not dispose of hazardous household waste in regular trash; those include such items as fuels, oils, and chemicals. Contact Harris County for information on how to dispose of hazardous waste.
Can I throw away other things besides household waste?
Our current service does not permit other waste to be collected in our regular trash. However, you do have other options. First, you can contact Texas Pride to quote you a price for specific disposal of other types of waste (i.e., construction waste, dirt, brick/tile, concrete, rocks, etc.). There are also a few “junk” removal services that can be hired to dispose of those items for you. If you are doing construction, hiring a roll-off dumpster might be the best option for you.
Is there recycling in our area?
There are a few county and city options that are available for recycling. Unfortunately, our current service contract does not offer recycling. When we investigate new waste services, we will consider offering recycling in our neighborhood. Let us know if this is something you would be interested in.
Some final thoughts…
Please make sure that your trash can is properly stored out of sight as soon as the trash is collected. Don’t put out trash more than a day before trash day. Make sure that “curbside donations” are not put out more than one day before you put out trash for pickup.
The next time you throw something away, please consider which is the proper way to do it. If you have trash in the bed of your pickup, take a moment to properly dispose of it. If there are grass clippings in the gutter, please take a few minutes to clean it up. If you see trash on the ground, pick it up. Thanks for understanding that we are all responsible for keeping Sagemeadow a beautiful place to live!
